Can't Quit Making Things!

  • Paula Hogan

    Owner, Creator, Customer Service

I love making things, sleeping in a cold room with lots of blankets, listening to audiobooks, doing water aerobics, being a grandma, knitting, working in my basement studio, reading, eating, napping. I don't love sweeping, alarm clocks, or being hot.

Frequently asked questions

What is laminated cotton, laminated cotton/linen blend, and laminated linen?

Laminated cotton, laminated cotton/linen blend, and laminated linen are natural fiber fabrics that have been coated with a layer of clear waterproof material.

Some of the finishes are glossy, some shiny (a little less shiny than the glossy), and some have a matte finish and the finish will be included in the listing description.

Some of the fabrics are lightweight and supple; some are heavier weight and a bit stiffer; both work great for most projects. The heavyweight can be a bit hard to work with on a very small project such as a 4" x 4" zipper bag.

These fabrics are wonderful for tablecloths, place mats, bags, rain coats, and much more!

How do I care for my laminated product?

Wipe laminates clean with a damp washcloth.

Unless otherwise noted, all of my laminates are machine washable: cold/gentle cycle. They can also be dried in the dryer on low or hung out to dry.

Like all natural fibers, the laminates can shrink slightly in the wash.

Laminates with strong dyes, although claiming to be color safe, may run. If that is a concern, set the color using a professional product.

Do laminates stain?

Laminates, while stain resistant, are not stain proof. Foods such as tomato- and curry-based products and permanent ink are the worst culprits. My personal experience has been that if I wash the food off fairly quickly, the fabric doesn't stain. I've also had good luck using a mixture of water and bleach, applied directly to the stained area with a cotton swab. I can't, however guarantee you will have the same results or that the bleach won't damage your fabric.

Please ask for a fabric sample if you'd like to test it for staining or stain removal.

Are the laminates safe for children's use?

The USA Federal Act of 2008, commonly known as CPSIA, states that children's products cannot contain more than 300 parts per million of lead. “Children’s products” are defined as “a consumer product designed or intended primarily for children 12 years of age or younger.” Three phthalates, DEHP, DBP, and BBP, have been permanently prohibited by Congress in concentration of more than 0.1% in “children’s toys” or “child care articles.” A “child care article” means a product that a child 3 and younger would use for sleeping, feeding, sucking or teething.

Individual laminates in my shop will be marked as CPSIA compliant if the manufacturer has conducted such testing. Other laminates MAY BE compliant but have not been tested.

Are the laminates BPA free?

Some of the fabrics have been tested for BPA and will be marked as such. Others have not been tested, but that does not necessarily mean they do have BPA.

Are the laminates food safe?

This is a tricky one. The CPSIA testing and testing for BPA are the only tests that may be required for some laminated fabrics. The laminates MAY BE food safe, but have not been tested specifically for that.

The way I look at it is that if it is CPSIA compliant, which means, among other things, that it's been certified safe for a child to suck on it, in my mind that makes it food safe, but you have to decide for yourself and your family.

Products that are CPSIA compliant will be marked as such in the listing.

Can I wash my PADDED ironing board cover in the washing machine?

Nope, you should never machine wash your padded cover. A padded cover can only be gently hand washed or spot cleaned.

If you know you're going to want to wash your ironing board cover, you probably want to buy a separate pad and cover. In the following listing, you can specify which fabric you'd like for a combination order of cover and separate pad:

Are the fabrics in the ironing board covers color safe?

Although the fabrics I use are advertised as color fast, very infrequently the bright and solid colors can run. If that is a concern with your item, I recommend that you set the colors before use. You can find many different instructions for setting colors in fabrics on the web. If your cover is padded, please set the color by hand rather than using a washing machine.

How accurate are the colors shown in the listings?

Computer monitors and other electronic devices are notoriously bad at displaying color accurately.

If you need to be sure something is the right color for your needs, please contact me for a sample.

I don't accept returns or exchanges if the color isn't what you were expecting or hoping for.
